Peninsula Point Two Rivers Historical Park
in Anoka, Minnesota

General Information

“To watch people recover, to see them help others, to watch loneliness vanish, to see a fellowship grow up about you, to have a host of friends—this is an experience you must not miss. We know you will not want to miss it.”

- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 89

Come join the fellowships of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin for the Great Lakes Region Unity Day 2021. This is a great way to meet other members of the fellowship from surrounding areas, meet your regional trustee and learn about what their roll is in the service structure and how the region supports the state areas and intergroups. We will have group activities, sobriety count-ups and count downs, breakout sessions, panel discussions and much. more.

Registration is strongly encouraged, although no addict will be turned away.

There will be a catered dinner on Saturday for $30. A ticket purchase is required.

Picnic areas are available at Peninsula Point Park with both open and sheltered picnic tables and cooking grills. There is a playground available for children, and seating is provided near the play area for parents. Other activities include biking and hiking.

Registration

Registration is free for general participation. If you wish to attend the catered dinner on Sunday evening there will be a $30 ticket purchase which can be added to the registration. (Menu choices are still being planned.)

Travel

Minnesota has a fairly comprehensive, efficient and inexpensive public transportation system. The light rail connects Minneapolis with St. Paul as well as the airport and Mall of America. While the transit system is comprehensive within city boundaries and between the Twin Cities, traveling to the suburbs takes much longer and is not always convenient.

Here are some travel guides designed to help you get to your destination with a little less stress, no matter how you are traveling.

*At the bottom of this section are links to the Google Maps and directions from a variety of origin / destination combinations that you might find useful. They are mobile device friendly.

FLYING

If you are flying you will arrive at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport (MSP). To get to Downtown Minneapolis, and then on to Anoka:

  • From Terminal 1:
    • Baggage claim is down one floor from the terminal
    • Once you have your bags, proceed down two more levels and follow the signs to Terminal 2
    • Take the Tram towards terminal 2. (HINT: It only has two stops)
    • When you exit the tram, follow everyone else and proceed down to the light rail (Blue Line) station.
    • Purchase your Metro ticket or pass at the fair stations before descend the final escalator to the platform.
    • Take the Blue Line towards Minneapolis. (If you have ended up at the Mall of America, you have gone the wrong direction.)
  • From Terminal 2:
    • Baggage claim is down one floor from the terminal level.
    • Once you have your bags, proceed back up the escalators located at the opposite end of the terminal from baggage claim and follow the signs to the light rail.
    • Purchase your Metro ticket or pass at the fair stations before you descend the final escalator to the platform or on the platform.
    • Take the Blue Line towards Minneapolis. (If you end up at the Mall of America, you have gone the wrong direction. Look for anyone from Terminal 1 that may also have gone the wrong direction.)
  • Once in Minneapolis:
    • Depending on your final destination, the Nicolette Mall station or Warehouse District will be the most likely next transfer point for you. From there you can connect easily with an Uber or Lyft to get to your lodging accommodations.
    • One bus route (#852) does come to Anoka, but it is every 70-75 minutes on the weekend and the last trip north on Friday is 7pm.
DRIVING

If you are driving from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois or Wisconsin you will most likely find yourself on I-94 somewhere between Eau Claire, Wisconsin and the Minnesota border.

  • Proceed west bound on I-94 W, towards Minneapolis
  • Once you cross the river into Minnesota
    • Continue on I-94W for 8.5 miles
    • Use right 2 lanes to take exit 249 and merge onto I-694 N
    • Continue on I-694 N for 12.2 miles
    • Keep right at the fork to continue on I-694 W for 3.7 miles
    • Use the right 2 lanes (exit 42A) for US-10 W towards Anoka
    • Continue on US-10 W for 2.6 miles
    • Take exit onto I-35W N/US-10 W for 1.4 miles
    • Use right 2 lanes to take exit 30 for US-10 W towards Anoka.

Most of the Anoka area lodging will be on US-10.
